Around 500 holidaymakers were stuck in the Channel Tunnel for six hours when their Shuttle train broke down on Tuesday night (25 August).

It was reported that some passengers panicked as the lights went out, the air conditioning stopped and temperatures began to rise when the train's power failed.

Travellers claimed they were not told about what was being done to get them out.

Passengers, who had boarded with their cars at 7.50pm on Tuesday, arrived in England at 2.30am Wednesday.

Eurostar services were also delayed for up to five hours.

Eurotunnel spokesman John Keefe said that the company would be refunding the cost of the trips and offering free travel vouchers.

He said: 'We had a technical incident on one of our trains. Everybody was safe."
