New Romney is celebrating runner Lisa Dobriskey's winning of a Silver in the World Athletics Championships in Berlin at the weekend.

Lisa, who was born in Ashford, was handed the 1500m Silver after Spanish runner, Natalia Rodriguez was disqualified for pushing Ethiopian Gelete Burka, causing her to fall on the last lap.

She was delighted with her performance, coming back from a fourth place in the Beijing Olympics and a season dogged by injury.

A stress fracture in her back kept her out of training for three months over Christmas and she then suffered a thigh injury.

Lisa studied at Southlands School in New Romney where her running talents were first spotted.
