Fete Society chairman John Schoner said: "It was a wonderful afternoon and evening of family entertainment, with cheers, laughter and applause all the way from start to finish.

"Glorious weather, an attractive setting and a lively mix of events and 'happenings' to support the traditional processions of decorated floats and the spectacular firework display plus the work of more than a hundred volunteers to ensure that on-the-day arrangements went with a swing all contributed to the successful outcome of more than a year of planning.

"The Venetian Fete began in 1860 and is still going strong. Long may it continue. Hythe can be very proud of staging an event which every two years gives so much pleasure to so many people of all ages".
