Folkestone’s Lower Leas Coastal Park has been recognised as one of the best in the country - for the third time.

It has been awarded a Green Flag - the national recognition that it is a top open space and is welcoming, safe, well-maintained and involves the local community.

The park, created from a stretch of neglected undercliff, was first awarded the prestigious flag in 2007 following the official opening of the second phase of its redevelopment. Following further improvements, it is now one of the top parks in the country.

As well as spring and summer meadows, formal and informal gardens, an avenue of pines and walkways, the park has amphitheatre and the largest free outdoor adventure playground in the south east for children.

Green Flags are awarded by Keep Britain Tidy, Green Space and the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers.
