Guests at the Grand Burstin Hotel, which towers over Folkestone Harbour were evacuated after a blaze in a room last night.

It was reported that scores of people were led to safety by staff shortly after midnight (17 August).

The alarm was raised when smoke was spotted coming from a second floor window by a person passing the hotel.

It is understood from reports that the cause was a tea light which set fire to a television set. The guest was not in the room at the time.

There are no reports of casualties but the small fire caused smoke damage to around ten rooms.
