This year's Hawkinge Community Fun Day will be held on Saturday 12th September from 11am to 4pm and as usual, will be held on the village green, outside the community centre, in Heron Forstal Avenue.

The theme for this year's event is "The History of Hawkinge" and much memorabilia will be on display to show our village in bygone days. Additionally, there will be stalls run by many local groups, several types of refreshments will be served, there will be a beer tent, and traditionally cooked Nepalese food.

There will be rides for children under five and also for those over 5, up to teenagers - pay once and play all day!

A stage area will be the focus for entertainment from local bands, singers, dancers and majorette displays.

At another point on the village green, a 2nd stage area will show historical re-enactments performed by The First Foot Guards Re-Enactment Unit. This historical display will include musket drills and they will also fire guns.

The Kent Army Cadet Force will also provide displays of marching precision.

Hawkinge Harry, our very own community giant, will be in attendance. During the afternoon a grand raffle draw will take place which will offer a cash first prize and many other prizes. Tickets will be on sale on the day and also at local shops in Hawkinge in advance of the event. The raffle prizes will be picked by the Rt Hon Michael Howard MP.

The community centre will show memorabilia of Hawkinge over many years from past to present times and refreshments will also be available in the foyer. The WI will serve refreshments in the village hall and there will also be a cake stall.

The event usually attracts over 2000 visitors from Hawkinge and far and wide. We have usually had the best weather too, but should this year vary from the norm, the event will move indoors, so all is catered for.

Come along and have a fantastic day! We look forward to seeing you and your friends, relatives and visitors to our village.
