Held every two years, Hythe's famous aquatic carnival is one of south east England's most popular family-fun events and attracts thousands of spectators to watch a five-hour afternoon and evening programme which includes processions of decorated floats, illuminated after dark, performances by live bands and a grand firework display.

The colourful curtain-raiser to the evening programme will be the arrival of ceremonial barges carrying the Town Mayor and visiting mayors of the Confederation of the Cinque Ports in full regalia.

Gates open at 4pm and entertainment starts at 4.30.

Tickets for reserved seats, prices from £9 for adults and from £5 for children under 14, are now on sale at the Fete office at Blue Shield Insurance, Prospect Road, Hythe CT21 5NS, during office hours (tel: 01303 269633).

Tickets for unreserved areas (adults, £7; children, £3) will be on sale on the day at the Fete entrances in Prospect Road, The Avenue, Twiss Road and Lucy's Walk.

Free concerts will be held on the canal bank on days preceding the Fete: Saturday, 7.30; Sunday, 3 and 7.30; Monday, 7.30; Tuesday, 7.00.
