A special exhibition to mark the life of former Folkestone lad and Spurs former player Walter Tull is opening at the Grand Hotel in Folkestone tomorrow (8 July).

Walter became the nation's first black outfield player when he played for Tottenham Hotspur between 1909-11 but sadly was to die during World War I.

He lived in Folkestone until the age of nine when the young family was orphaned.

The exhibition which has been designed by the City of Westminster Archives with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Professional Footballers' Association has been on a nationwide tour since September, 2008, visiting the National Army Museum, Methodist Central Hall, London, the National Football Museum in Preston and the Scottish Football Museum in Glasgow.

Folkestone is the final official leg of the tour and the exhibition will run until the end of July.
