The Court of Swale had the pleasure if attending the Dover Carnival Association Ltd (DCAL)  carnival on Saturday 4 July.
 

We would like to congratulate Mandie Sehmbi, the DCAL Committee and the people of Dover for a wonderful carnival with such a fantastic atmosphere. We would also like to especially thank Mandie and Honarary Princess, Hayley for giving all the Carnival Associations in Kent a timely reminder of what 'Carnival' is really all about.

It is not about one-upmanship - who has the best float and dresses, or who is winning the most trophies - it is about helping people less fortunate than ourselves. The Committees of the Carnival Associations act as a catalyst that bring the people of their towns and villages together; and it is they, the people of these communities, who actually put the carnivals together by their attendance.

What Mandie and her Committee did on Saturday was a wake-up call to all of us in Carnival; true 'Carnival Spirit' is shown by the funnelling of our limited resources to where it can do the most good.

Well done, Mandie, and thank you for reminding us all about what 'Carnival' is all about.
