High speed rail service set to expand

Southeastern has completed the first month of running high speed ‘preview’ services from St Pancras International to Ebbsfleet and Ashford International stations and passenger numbers have grown above expectation.

The service was so popular that in its first week of operation Southeastern had to double the length of two trains from six to 12 cars.

Charles Horton, managing director said, “We are extremely pleased with the first month of the preview service. To be doubling the length of some of our trains in the first week was amazing. To achieve such great punctuality is a reflection of the hard work all our staff have put in and we hope that passengers have appreciated this.”

Southeastern are now considering the possibility of expanding the frequency and destinations of the ‘preview’ service in advance of the introduction of the full service in December.

Currently the Ashford preview service runs three morning peak services from Ashford International to St Pancras International and three return services in the evening peak.
