In a close fought poll, just over two thirds of villagers have said they preferred it to stay a village with the remainder of the 191 people who cast their votes wanting Hawkinge to become a town with a Town Council and Mayor.

The result was as follows

Question: If the Parish Council gave Hawkinge residents the choice of staying a village or becoming a town, which way would you vote?

...I want Hawkinge to stay a village 129     68%
...I'm in favour of Hawkinge Town     62     32%
