More than eight thousand people of all ages were encouraged to have some fun and feel alive at free events this summer from Active Dover.

And over 5,000 enjoyed the Get Wet day held at Pencester Gardens in the town on Saturday (18 July).

Activities included swimming, sailing, windsurfing, rowing, walking, rock climbing, skating and bmx, gymnastics, dance and fitness, cheerleading, football, and the popular Games Zone. There was also information on a range of subjects from kayaking to sea angling and scuba diving.

Vista Leisure were promoting the Government’s free swimming campaign, which is offering free swimming to people aged 60 and over for 2 years.

It was the last in a series of events which included others at Fowlmead Park on 25 May and Victoria Park/Tides Leisure Centre in Deal on 6 June organized by Active Dover as part of Feel Alive 2009.

Active Dover is a new partnership aimed at ensuring you have plenty of ways to keep fit, healthy and stay active, no matter what your age.

Sarah Philpott, Event Organiser and Sports Development Officer at Dover District Council said: "The aim of the events is simply to encourage and show people how to 'get up, get out, get active and feel alive!’ The event complements the national campaign called 'change for life' which is all about supporting people to 'move more, eat well and live longer.’”
