Asylum seekers at the Dover detention centre who are facing the boot from Britain are being paid to fix bikes.

Twelve illegal immigrants at a time make up to £60 a week repairing bicycles at the centre while they wait to be deported reports the Mirror website.

Kent police supply the cycles which have either been seized from criminals or left unclaimed from the lost property office.

The asylum seekers clean the chains, pump up tyres, mend spokes and do any other repairs needed.

The refurbished bikes are sent to Africa for hard-up school kids. Kent police's Mike Cronin said: "It's a win-win situation."
