Free summer events at Folkestone Bandstand and Lower Leas Amphitheatre

Sunday afternoon concerts at the Leas Bandstand and a series of children's events at the Lower Leas Park Amphitheatre have been announced by Folkestone Town Centre Management (FTCM).


The not-for-profit organisation, which, with  Discover Folkestone, Hythe and Romney Marsh, its tourism arm, recently staged the successful four-day Folkestone Multi-Cultural Festival, is organising thirteen summer season events at the venues for Shepway District Council.

Free band concerts on the Leas start on July 12 and continue until mid-September. Deck chairs will be available without charge. Entertainment at the Lower Leas Coastal Park, also free, will be especially for children.

Town centre manager John Barber said that the FTCM partnership welcomed the opportunity to work with the district council on its public events programme.

"Festivals and events play a big part in our claim that Shepway is the place where there's always something interesting going on. The Leas and Lower LeasCoastal Park are wonderful venues for outdoor shows and we look forward to providing visitors and residents of all ages with hours of enjoyable entertainment".

Sunday concerts at the Leas Bandstand (all starting at 2.30 pm)

July 12, Sittingbourne UK Paper Band;

July 19, Gravesend Borough Band;

July 26, Keele University Band.

August: 2, Rattlaz Jazz Band;

August 9, Tilbury Brass Band;

August 16, Invicta Concert Band;

August  23, Northfleet Brass Band;

August 30, Birchington Silver Band.

September: 6, Cantium Brass; 13, Crystal Palace Band.

Children's events at the Lower Leas Coastal Park (afternoons)

July: 5 (Sunday), 2-4 pm. 'Travelling by Tuba'. Concerts and workshops, with audience participation;

July 25 (Saturday) from 1pm. Playtime Theatre brings toys to life. (Open workshop, 1-3 pm; performance, 4.30 pm).

August: 25 (Tuesday), 3pm, Quantum Theatre. 'Alice Through the Looking Glass'. Performance lasts 1 hour 50 minutes, with 20-minute interval.

Other events not organised by Folkestone Town Centre Management will also be held at the Lower Leas Coastal Park during the summer season.
