A 19-strong crew of Croatian boatmen succeeded in crossing the English Channel in a gondola-like boat on Friday (26 June) reports the Croatian Times.

The 16 rowers, one drummer and two coxswains crossed the Channel between Dover and Calais in 3.4 hours. They used a long wooden boat like a Venetian gondola.

They started at 6:40 am and enjoyed nice weather most of the way but had to fight rain and big waves at the end.

Team general manager Milojko Glasovic told the Croatian Times they were all just thrilled by their successful crossing.

The crew members were all athletes from local teams that compete with each other in races in long wooden boat as tourist spectacles on the Neretva River in Croatia.
