The Folkestone Academy is included in the latest list of community radio licence winners in the hotly-contested South East England round.

Ofcom announced a total of three new stations in Kent, and one in neighbouring East Sussex.

Academy FM will broadcast from the Folkestone Academy and bring a community radio service to the entire community.

Academy pupils as well as other students and members of the community will be offered opportunities to broadcast or help run the service, and be offered training.

The station will aim to unite, support, involve and serve the Folkestone community.

Ofcom has also awarded community radio licences to Academy FM, Ramsgate, Radio Sunlight, Gillingham and Rye FM, Rye, East Sussex.

A Folkestone religious service, Loveworld Radio was refused a licence.
