A 19-strong crew of Croatian boatmen are planning to cross the English Channel in a gondola.

The 16 rowers, drummer and two coxswains, are planning to make the crossing between Dover and Calais on Thursday 25 June in just five hours.

They are all members of local teams which compete with each other on the Neretva river in Croatia racing long wooden boats like Venetian gondolas as a tourist spectacle.
