Police arrested three men in Folkestone town centre today (8 May) following a serious knife attack in Peterborough yesterday.

It was reported a man had been severely injured and left staggering with blood pouring from his head in what is thought to have been an assault with either a machete or a butcher's knife.

Armed police sealed off Peterborough's train and bus stations as dozens of officers combed streets close to the incident.

The condition of the victim, who is in a specialist hospital unit, is said to be stable.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police confirmed: "Three men have been arrested by Kent police in Folkestone town centre in connection with the serious assault."

It is understood the men are due to be taken to Peterborough for questioning today.
