The man who flew across the English Channel on a jet-wing last year, is to attempt a flight across the Grand Canyon with a new set of even faster jet-propelled wings.

In September 2008, daredevil Yves Rossy leapt from a plane at 9,000 feet, fired up his jets and made his 22 mile epic flight from Calais to Dover in less than 10 minutes.

The record breaking Swiss flyer landed safely in a field close to the South Foreland Lighthouse at St Margaret's.

Speaking to fans about his new challenge at the Geneva book fair in Switzerland, Rossy said: "I've been fascinated by the Grand Canyon for a long time now.

"There are vertical cliffs over 1,000 metres high, so I can do what I do without taking risks. I'd be 200 metres from spectators with 800 metres of air below me."

And the real life Buzz Lightyear revealed that he's invented a smaller, more powerful jet wing.
