A series of spectacular events are set to take off for the Dover 2009 Bleriot centenary celebrations.

To make sure everyone is being kept fully up to speed, a special free public evening is being held in Dover Town Hall on 8 June from 7pm.

Jon Iveson, Curator at Dover Museum will be giving an illustrated talk on Louis Bleriot and the 1909 flight, followed by a presentation from Paul Tipple, Chairman of Cresting Ltd, who will outline the programme for the Bleriot weekend, and how local people can get involved.

Dover District Council and Cresting Ltd, are organising a packed weekend of events on 25 and 26 July, including re-creations of the flight with original Bleriot aircraft.

There will be historic aircraft flying and static displays, a cross channel salute and fly-past by the Red Arrows and, from the French Air Force, La Patrouille de France.

A spectacular evening fireworks display on Dover seafront will round off the celebrations.

Also on the seafront, a large tented village with English, French and Italian themes will provide refreshments, displays and entertainment.
