Former Dover Girls Grammar School and South Kent College student, Sonita Henry appears in the new multi-million dollar Star Trek movie.

 

32-year-old Sonita moved moved to America in 1997 and after living in New York moved to Los Angeles in 2002.

During the five years she spent in New York she acted in some indie films, commercials and continued studying acting.

After saying she would never move to Los Angeles, Sonita realized that if she wanted to be a “working actress” she would have to make the move and drove over 2,000 miles to the City of Angels.
 

Sonita has now lived in Los Angeles for nearly 7 years.

In that time she’s starred in numerous commercials for Hyundai Sonata, Axe Hair, Toyota Rav4, Sears, Philadelphia Cream Cheese to name a few, TV shows and films.

Speaking about the Star Trek role, she said it took time for her to realise the enormity of the role, saying: “As an actor, you’re like, ‘Great! Another job,’ and then it slowly begins to sink in that this isn’t just another job, this is Star Trek.

“This is huge. This has millions and millions of fans around the world.”

Sonita plays the part of Starfleet Doctor who helps deliver James T. Kirk, the future Captain of the Starship Enterprise.
