£671,320 extra benefits have been awarded to local over 60s during the past ten months and many more could be eligible for extra cash.

Dover District Council, The Pension Service and partners have been working together to ensure that residents in the district who are 60 and over have access to all the benefits and services to which they are entitled.

This joint service offers the opportunity for residents to ask for a home visit from one of our specialist visiting officers who can give advice and help about claiming Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, Pension Credits and Attendance Allowance.

Margaret Smith from Deal, who has used the service, said: “This service has been a wonderful help to me and has improved my life.”

A DWP spokesperson said: “People’s circumstances change all the time and even those who have not been eligible for help in the past may be now. Whether it’s through Pension Credit, Attendance Allowance or Carer’s Allowance, money is there to be paid to those who need it.”

Brinley Hill, DDC Community Development Manager, said: “By working together with DWP, we will ensure that people over 60 are getting the benefits they are entitled to.”
