Moller-Maersk disposal talks mean uncertainty for Norfolkline

AP Moller-Maersk, the owners of ferry company Norfolkline, confirmed it is involved in talks to dispose of a business from its core shipping activities.

The Danish company said it was in talks with several parties about a "possible transaction" involving Norfolkline, its ferry business.

Norfolkline operates ferries in the English Channel and Irish Sea, and operates door-to-door transportation in northern Europe. Last year, it transported 2.4 million passengers, about 700,000 vehicles and 1.3 million trailers.

It announced cutbacks on some routes in January, to take effect from this month.

Moller-Maersk said there was no certainty that the talks would lead to a transaction.

The group said in its annual report that it was hit last year by the economic downturn in Britain, higher fuel costs and exchange rates.
