A teenager from Folkestone has been given thousands of pounds by an Olympic gold medallist to help her reach the 2012 Paralympic Games.

Vicky Silk, 17, has represented Great Britain in javelin and also competes in shot and discus.

The athlete won gold medals in javelin at the 2006 Disability Sports Events National Athletics Games, the 2006 National Dwarf Games and the 2006 European Dwarf Games.

Vicky is now aiming to get to the 2012 Paralympic Games and is being supported by P&O Ferries Talented Athlete Programme.

She received a cheque for £3,000, the second in five-year instalment supporting Kent athletes, from double Olympic gold medallist Sarah Webb MBE.

Sarah, was part of the gold medal winning sailing team, affectionately named ‘Three Blondes in a Boat’, which triumphed at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
