The Government have announced plans to create Britain's first military academy at a historic boarding school in Dover

The school would receive £37 million in funding, including £23 million from the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) to refurbish boarding and teaching facilities, plus £14 million from the MoD.

The proposals would also see the school increase its pupil intake to 720 and still give admissions priority to children whose parents are in the armed forces.

Defence minister Kevan Jones said: "The children of servicemen and women will remain a priority and the school will retain its distinctive military ethos."

Defence Ministry, owned Duke of York's Royal Military School has provided schooling for children of servicemen and women since 1803.
