An attempted burglary was thwarted by a quick thinking Hawkinge resident last night.

The resident who lives in a bungalow in Cowgate Lane, wishes to remain anonymous, but said the person: "Opened the main window through a small window which was open, at around midnight last night.

"I made a lot of noise and called him a four letter word and he fled.

"I rang the Police this morning and was told there had been a number of incidents in the area last night," the resident said.

"A throng of Police, arrived at 3.30pm this afternoon to investigate the crimes with scenes of crime officers.

"I was asked for a statement even though I only had a tube of toothpaste stolen, but even as a cynic I am very impressed with the Police response," the resident said.
