The sounds of pipes and drums greeted members of the 2nd Battalion the Royal Gurkha Rifles at their headquarters at Sir John Moore Barracks in Shorncliffe, Folkestone today (19 April) after a six-month tour of duty.

But the Battalion sadly lost two of its serving members in quick succession while fighting in the war torn country last November.

Rifleman Yubraj Rai, 28, was killed on November 4, while his comrade Colour Sergeant Krishnabahadur Dura, 36, died on November 15.

Families and friends welcomed the Gurkha soldiers on their return to the barracks.
