Ferry companies have expressed frustration over the financial costs of yet another disruption to cross channel services due to industrial action in France

French fishermen finally allowed traffic to resume to three English Channel ports yesterday (16 April) after receiving a French government promise of 4 million euros  in aid, but they vowed to keep up their fight against European fishing quotas.

However the lifting of the blockade was swiftly followed by a "snail strike" this morning which disrupted sea traffic when the fishermen formed a convoy of trawlers that travelled at very slow speeds across the Channel.

Ferry companies, unhappy over the disruption, expressed frustration at losses from the two-day blockade.

Passenger and freight traffic was today (17 April) gradually returning to normal in Calais, Dunkirk and Boulogne-sur-Mer.

Meanwhile, EU officials said they were studying whether the promised French state aid was allowed.
