Damien Hirst’s painting, entitled Beautiful Love Demelza, provides the branding for the ‘Make room in your Heart’ initiative which will seek donations to support rooms at each of the Demelza Hospices.

The painting was sold at auction in aid of Demelza and raised £650,000 for the hospice.

Every year Demelza Hospice Care for Children helps hundreds of children and families affected by life-limiting and life threatening conditions across the whole of the South East.

Demelza provides its services free of charge to any child that needs it, it receives very little government funding and therefore has to rely on fundraising.

It is hoped the campaign will enable Demelza to continue providing all the special services in the local community with donations supporting the funding of a bedroom.

A donation from as little as £4.42 will provide a valuable 5 minutes in one of Demelza’s bedrooms and will ensure that the families can put their children’s care into the hands of someone they trust.

Debbie Southern, a mother of a child who uses this service, commented: “As a family we always treasure our precious moments at Demelza and forget about all our worries and leave medication and treatment to the great Care Team. Just to have a cuddle, and spend time as a family is heaven. A good night’s sleep is an added bonus too!”
