Dover Athletic have won the Ryman Premier Division title with a convincing 6-0 win over Sutton United on Saturday  and promotion to prestigious  Blue Square South league.

It is the second time in as many seasons that Dover have won promotion.

Staines, who were the only team who could have caught the runaway Dover side, could only manage a draw in their match at Hastings, which ultimately gave the 'Whites' the title and promotion to  the Blue Square South league.

Manager Andy Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent: "The effort has been phenomenal, people can see something's happening at Dover."

"It's great to win two promotions in two years but it was fantastic to do it in front of our own fans with a championship performance," said Dover chairman Jim Parmenter.

"It was probably the best performance I've ever seen from a Dover side."

Dover missed becoming the first team in the country to win their league this season by just 5 days, after Scarborough Athletic took of Northern Counties East League Division One title on Tuesday night.
