Fifty one students from the Folkestone Academy were able to put faces to names when they travelled to College Angellier in Boulogne to meet their pen-pals.

For many of them, it was their first visit to Boulogne in a trip, which had been part-funded by a donation from the Roger de Haan Charitable Trust and organised by BOSCO+, the Boulogne, Shepway and Canterbury Co-operation Association.

Accompanied by six adults, the young people enjoyed an action-packed two day visit on 12 and 13 March which included workshops, maths and French lessons, drama presentations, sports and cookery.

The English and French pupils also toured a chocolate factory and visited Nausicaa Sealife Centre.

Greg Shaw, head of Modern Foreign Languages at Folkestone Academy, said that it had been a valuable experience and everyone had enjoyed it.

“The pupils have been writing to each other for six months so it was good for them to get together. We’re looking forward to the return visit from the College Angellier on the 11 and 12 May.”
