Ferry operators crossing swords in battle for the Channel

As the battle for business hots up, and Channel ferry operators wait for yet another competitor in Euro-ferries from Ramsgate, those with ships sailing from Dover are becoming more touchy.

P&O Ferries is seeking an injunction against a French local authority which, it is alleged, is providing French taxpayers’ support for LD Line’s ferry links between Dover and Boulogne and Dieppe.

LD Line says the state aid granted by the Department of the Seine Maritime region was notified to the French and the respective EU authorities.

Lloyds List web portal reports that in, what it describes as a stinging riposte, it (LD Line) says it is more interested in developing cross-channel trade than becoming embroiled in futile debates when economic conditions are so tough.
