The historic Leas Lift in Folkestone has been ditched by Shepway Council after a decision made by the council’s Cabinet on Thursday (19 March).

It was revealed that the loss making tourist attraction costs £90,000 to run each year yet only brings in £30,000.

The lift which has been in the town for over 100 years will be lost unless a new operator comes forward.

Shepway District Council has agreed to serve notice to bring its lease of the Leas Lift to an end.

It will be left in the hands of its owners, the Radnor Estate.
