Brittany Ferries has made a bid to take over fellow French operator SeaFrance.

The ferry firm propose to create a new holding company, in partnership with SeaFrance's existing owner, rail operator SNCF.

Brittany Ferries wants a 75% stake in the new company, with SNCF taking a 25% stake and would acquire four of the five ships constituting the SeaFrance fleet.

Newcomer to the Dover ferry port, LD Line has already shown an interest in SeaFrance which has announced plans to axe 650 jobs out of a total 1,700.
