Joss fulfils her promise

A pat on the back for Dover chanteuse Joss Stone, who, despite her fame and fortune, remembered her promise to return to Dover to play a gig in the town where she spent her childhood.

Not only was Dover treated to her songs in more intimate surroundings than Ms Stone is used to, but also Deal, where she played to fans in the hall of the Castle Community College.

Community Centre - I don't believe it!

The Hawkinge Community Centre has come a long way in a very short time since the new board took over last year.

I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't been sitting in the audience with other members at the AGM, but there was spontaneous applause for the new board's work and effort which they are putting in to make the centre a venue for the whole village, young and old alike.

Shame there aren't any zig zags

I was interested to read that school kids will be showing 'red cards' to lazy parkers who break the law by leaving their vehicles on the yellow zig zag lines outside Kent schools. The card will be waved and roadside banners are proclaiming that drivers must 'keep the zig zags clear' or face up to a £70 fine.

Kent County Council's school travel plan team and Kent Police are launching this clampdown in Gravesham and Dartford because many schools in the area have highlighted that they have problems with illegal parking. If the initial three-week pilot is successful, it will be offered to other schools across Kent.

It's just a shame that there is only a zig zag line outside the Hawkinge Primary school. No doubt a line will eventually be painted outside the Churchill School.

Let us all hope it won't be an accident which prompts KCC to get out the yellow paint.

Just £700 to go

Our good friend Robert Mouland together with the Folkestone Leas Step Lift Carriage Appeal committee are now just £700 shy of the £25,000 target to save the historic carriage.

Well done!
