The 2009 Dover Film Festival kicks off at Dover Town Hall on Monday 16th February so if you haven't entered your film yet you only have until 15th February to get your movie shown.

This year will see an International selection of short films including Canadian film maker Roberto Santaquida from Montreal with "Miraslava".

The seven-minute film tells the story of a young man, whose life is in tatters, seeking redemption by fleeing to the city.

Santaquida is currently working on a feature-length documentary set in Montreal following the lives of street hockey players and biker gangs.

Also showing will be the Prix Europa prize-winning "Washed Up", featuring Dover mum and son Karol and Ben Steele, which tells the story of 12 castaways working to survive on a desert island despite their cultural and language barriers.

Richard Wilkinson's look at the tunnels and underground passages around the Western Heights in his short movie "Another Secret From Within the White Cliffs of Dover" is also included together with Canterbury University student's film unit film, 'Playground' which features local actors and "Stories from the Duke of York's School from 1968 to 2003" compiled by Mike McFarnell.

Visitors to the film festival will be able to vote for their favourite film over the two days, and the winner will be awarded the 2009 Dover Film Festival Public Choice Award.

Entries should be in DVD format and should be sent to Mike McFarnell,4 Harold Street, Dover on or before 15 February.

Tickets to attend the festival which runs on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th February 2009 at 3.00pm and 7.30pm cost £3.50 (£3 for Senior Citizens and £2 for children), and are available from the Dover Visitor Information Centre in Biggin Street, or from Ann and Pam's Florists in Cherry Tree Avenue.
