Following news that American record holding Channel swimmer, Peter Jurzynski had pulled out of the Mayoral race for his Naugatuck hometown in Connecticut, USA this year, he has contacted the Hawkinge Gazette, hinting he may be looking to move permanently to Folkestone.

The 57-year-old who underwent heart surgery last year wants to focus on his other passion, Channel swimming.

He said he hopes to complete the gruelling swim to inspire people with heart complications or other health problems.

Peter, who has made no secret of his affection for Folkestone and Hawkinge spends most of the summer in the area.

He told the Gazette: "As you can see my life has been running for Mayor in USA and swimming the English Channel.

"My Channel record is far better than the election success record and frankly I did far better in Massachusetts politics than in Connecticut.

"At this time in my life I am seriously exploring a move to Folkestone.

"I really love the place," he sighed.
