Channel Tunnel operator Eurotunnel, has bought Veolia Cargo, a major operator in the French rail freight market and now makes them a leading player in the sector.

Veolia, which in 2008 had revenues of approximately 50 million Euros, will see the various parts of its group rebranded under the Europorte mark.

The deal is a major investment by Europorte 2 which established a cross channel freight unit in 2007, primarily to lessen its reliance on SNCF which transported freight to the tunnel.
