Despite the heavy snow this morning, there have been no major road accidents although several cars have skidded and damaged other cars and road signs.

Kent Police in the Folkestone area are praising the majority of drivers for heeding warnings to take extra time and drive carefully.

A collision occurred this morning when the gradient sign on Dover Hill near the Valiant Sailor pub was damaged when a car skidded into it.

Two cars collided in Brockhill Road causing some local congestion; a lorry collided with a car in Brady Road, Lyminge and two cars collided at Reece Gate Lane in Acrise near Folkestone.

There were no major incidents on Sunday on local roads in Shepway. A car overturned after it slid and hit several parked cars in Sandgate High Street just before 5 pm on Sunday evening. A man was also injured when he was hit by one of the cars who had been hit by the skidding car. The road was closed until 6.45 pm while the vehicle was recovered and three people were taken to hospital. It is not thought their injuries were serious.

A car slid and hit a parked car in Waterloo Road, Folkestone at 5.25 pm on Sunday evening.

A car overturned on a bend at Stone Street in Lyminge at 9.50 am on Sunday morning, but the driver was not seriously injured.

"Although the gritters have been out many areas remain icy, so please allow significantly extra time for your journey and make sure you have spare warm clothing, and food and drink supplies in your vehicle," said Sergeant Dave Gilbert from Folkestone Police Station..
