A market trader, who funded a lavish lifestyle by selling counterfeit goods has been ordered to pay back almost £3.3million or he will be jailed for ten years.

41 year-old Guarcharan Singh from Chatham illegally earned millions of pounds selling fake luxury handbags, shoes and sunglasses, Canterbury Crown Court was told.

He would sell the goods in his shop, in Ashford, Kent as well as a market stall in Folkestone, before using the money to fund his lavish lifestyle, the court heard.

After being convicted of 43 counts of possessing and selling fake goods, he was given a two year suspended sentence earlier this week.

He was however, also ordered to repay £3,293,000 within six months otherwise he would be jailed for 10 years.

Police said the confiscation order is one of the highest ever involving the sale of counterfeit goods.
