A few decades ago it was a sign of summer when American record holding Channel swimmer Peter Jurzynski arrived in Folkestone for his two month annual visit.

But a new tradition started last Christmas and is set to continue in a few days time.

Peter will be arriving in town to do some training at the Folkestone Sports Centre pool but most importantly to enjoy the Yuletide among the many friends he has made.

"Folkestone is just fantastic at Christmas even with the shortened daylight.

"Without the pressures of an immediate channel swim, I can relax and enjoy being in the world's nicest community."

Peter has scheduled another channel swim for summer 2010 so he plans to do some interval and short distance training at the Sports Centre although he admits his main reason for being in Folkestone is his love of the area!
