Racehorse claims Channel Tunnel record

Teeky, a three-year-old filly made a small bit of transport history last week.

She became the first thoroughbred racehorse to travel under the English Channel, rather than over it.

Since the tunnel opened in 1994, it has always been considered better for racehorses to travel on ferries, often heaving around in bad weather.

Shipping agents, Peden and Eurotunnel have been running trials with non-competitive horses and when the Channel storms prevented boats from taking livestock last week, the only way to get Teeky to Fontainebleau to race was through the Channel Tunnel and Eurotunnel agreed as part of the continuing trial.
