No decision to close St Luke's Church

News

No decision has been made to close the St Luke's Church site but it's unlikely for its future to be decided soon, according to the Rev Rob Grinsell.

The Rev Grinsell, Vicar of St Luke's Church in Hawkinge said that the Canterbury Diocese made an approach to look at the viability of the Church and Hall but confirmed the Vicarage was not included in the discussions.

He explained that St Luke's was built in 1958 when the population of the village was between two and three thousand people and had now grown to around 8,000.

Rev Grinsell said that the building was not designed for such a large population and St Luke's is currently running family services at the Lighthouse Church in Hawkinge Community Centre on Sundays.

"There had been speculation over the future of the St Luke's site for around two years but as yet no decision has been made," he said.
