Re:Dungeness closure could mean buying nuclear produced electricity from France

Three points to note here Mr Collins:

Firstly, the Government Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) says that the Dungeness site does not satisfy environmental requirements so I would presume that you do not have a problem with the decision.

Secondly, Dungeness B does not supply half of our electricity.

Total National nuclear generation is 15%, Dungeness B supplies 7% of that, i.e. approximately 1% of our electricity.

Finally, according to The Times Online 3rd July 2009, France is currently importing electricity from us.

Interestingly a spokesperson for the National Grid said that, the day before, during peak demand, France imported the equivalent amount of electricity to that currently generated by Dungeness B.
