A nuclear power station on Romney Marsh has been shut down after fire broke out at the Dungeness B site.

Firefighters were called just before midnight on Monday after a fire in the boiler annexe was discovered.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service said 10 crews were sent to the scene and the blaze was put out by 2.00am.

None of the 52 staff on site were injured.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated.

A British Energy spokesman said: "There was no risk to the public and there was no release of radioactive material."
