The first of two new ships being built for P&O Ferries is rapidly taking shape at Rauma in Finland.

The picture shows the three tunnels formed into the hull to take huge bow thrusters that will enable the 49,000 tonne ship to perform a perfect pirouette.

They help the manoeuvrability of the ships and make it faster to turn around in port, without the need of tugs, which cuts the waiting time for passengers.

Delivery of the first ship is on schedule and is expected to arrive at the end of next year with the second delivered in September 2011.
