A long established landmark hotel in Hythe is to be redeveloped and extended after plans for a £12m facelift were approved by Shepway planners.

Work on the Hythe Imperial Hotel, part of the Mecure Hotel Group, should begin early next year.

The scheme will comprise a hotel, conference, a golf club house and leisure facilities on a 3.2-acre site.

Turley Associates associate director Richard Goodall said that the planning permission has “acknowledged the importance of the Hythe Imperial Hotel as a driver for economic development and tourism. The hotel is not only an important landmark but also community facility and key local employer."
