It may not be California or even Cornwall but it didn't stop one intrepid surfer taking to the sea in Dover.

These action photos from the beach, as he rode the waves were taken by our Dover correspondent Karol Steele.

Surfing is not unknown in Kent.  Joss Bay near Broadstairs has a surf school and large numbers of enthusiasts can often be seen at the beach during the summer months.

Further along the coast, surfers can be seen near the Harbour Wall at Ramsgate.
