Racist graffiti has been removed from a subway in Folkestone after neighbourhood police officers saw that it was likely to cause offence.

East Folkestone PCSOs Janet Rumley and Bethan Ghost saw the graffiti that included a swastika in the underpass between Dallas Brett Crescent and Brabner Close.

The officers linked in with the Shepway Community Safety Unit, which is made up of officers and staff from Kent Police, Shepway Council and other local authorities.

Community Safety Officer Giles Barnard arranged for the graffiti to be removed as soon as possible and says it’s a good example of partnership working: “Kent Police and Shepway Council work closely together to tackle issues like graffiti because we know it is a matter of concern to local residents”.

“We have a number of methods that are used to identify who is responsible and also gather information from PCSOs and KCC Community Wardens who have close links in their neighbourhoods.” he added.

Police are currently following lines of enquiry about a teenage boy who is thought to be responsible. If anyone has information they are asked to contact Detective Sergeant James Ross on 01303 850055.

If you are concerned about graffiti or any anti-social behaviour where you live contact your neighbourhood officer. Their details can be found by visiting www.kent.police.uk, phoning 01303 850055 or from any Kent police station.
