The life of a 4-year-old child from east Kent suffering from H1N1 swine flu may have been saved by an anti-flu drug marketed for adults according to her doctor.
 

The girl, Jessie Flewker from Deal suffered potentially deadly brain swelling and was put in a drug-induced coma for three days, The Mirror reported in an exclusive on Monday (16 October).

She woke from the coma and called for her mother within 12 hours of being given the drug Relenza, her grandmother, Carol, told The Mirror.

"They are calling her a walking miracle," she said.

The girl was taken ill on 27 October and has now returned home. She was the youngest British patient ever given Relenza, Dr Marilyn McDougall of St. Thomas Hospital, in London, told The Mirror.

Relenza given intravenously produced a "dramatic response" in the girl, Dr  McDougall said.
